This is my favorite cookie and my Aunt Jane, who passed away two years ago, used to make them all the time. Unca T sends me a batch for Christmas too, along with pizzelles. Now THOSE are NOM!
Most of my recipes are on note cards, which means I have no idea half the time if they’re family recipes or ones I just copied from who knows where, with exception to a few I specifically point out. This is one of the former, though I believe it might be my aunt’s recipe for snickerdoodles.
Snickerdoodles
Ingredients:
½ cup butter or margarine, softened
½ cup shortening
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 ¾ cups flour, self –rising
2 tblsp. Sugar
2 teas. Cinnamon
Heat oven to 400˚. Mix butter, shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly. Blend in flour. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Mix 2 tblsp. sugar and the cinnamon; roll balls in mixture. Place two inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
